About Weymouth Rod Works

Here at Weymouth Rod Works our mission is to introduce you to the bamboo fishing experience! Hello, my name is Ken Weymouth; I am a bamboo rod maker and I live and fish primarily in the waters of Wisconsin. I am very lucky to have within reach many cold water species of steelhead, browns, brookies, rainbows and salmon to fish for. Some great warm water species include, muskie, pike, walleye, bass, crappies and pan fish to name a few. There are water types to fit any taste from the Rush, Kinnickinnic, Wolf, the many miles of creeks and the Lake Superior and Michigan tributaries offer the angler a bounty of opportunity. Sometimes if you are really quiet you can feel Aldo Leopold looking over your shoulder.

Good for the soul

I fell in love with fly fishing because it transports me into a magical and simpler world. I've never felt closer to nature than when I'm on the river. I can see clearer; it compels me to be at my best and bring out all that is good in me. Fly fishing defines me and gives my life balance. I am linked by tradition to the greats of fly fishing; Halford and Skues, Gordon and Wulff, allowing me to put on the clothes of these forefathers if even for just a while. I am part of a tradition, which like a flowing river, joins me to the past, even as it carries me into the future.

Why I do what I do

I build Bamboo rods because I can't think of anything else I would rather be doing. My intent in building split-cane rods is simply to make the finest rod that I can make, both in terms of craftsmanship and performance. This mission includes the evolution of design concepts relative to performance as well as aesthetic refinement and service. I offer these rods to you in hope that they may bring as much joy for you to use in your pursuit as they were for me to build.
